Attorney Cartall is intimately familiar with the concerns of injured workers and their families, particularly railroad workers. He began his career in 1971 as a fireman on the Southern Pacific (San Antonio Division) and worked as an engineer until 1989, when he graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas State Bar.

Mr. Cartall founded The Cartall Law Firm, PLLC, in 1989. He is a "designated legal counsel" for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and is a member of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys. He is also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association.
